Overview: Old Delhi Heritage Walk gives an opportunity to explore the various facets of Shahjahanabad area. You can explore some of the historic Jain and Hindu temples, Sikh Gurudwaras, mosques and spice market. You get chance to explore narrow alleys, going past several havelis and educational institutions. There is a history behind all alleys, markets and gardens. You can enjoy the colorful bazaars with shops lined up selling all sorts of things – jewelries, silken clothes, bridal outfits and much more. If you can rejoice freshly cooked street food, the walk gives you some nice opportunities.
Distance Covered: Equivalent to Three to Four Kilometers
Duration: 2-3 hours
Suitable Time: Early mornings are the best as you can skip the noise and crowd. But if you want to see daily activities and enjoy the chaotic environment, walk can be done at any time of the day. During summer, early morning is advisable as it gets quite hot during day time.
Who Should Come: The Walk is for all those who can walk and stand for nearly three hours, braving quite a few steps at different monuments. The walk involves connecting to history and only those with interest in knowing about cultural history of India would like the Walk. You should avoid bringing small kids.
What to Wear and Carry: Since you will visit religious sites, it is advisable to adorn clothes generally considered suitable for religious sites. Please avoid wearing shorts. Please wear Walking shoes or comfortable walking sandals. Carry your own drinking water. If it is summer time, carry more water.
